WHAT WE ARE BUILDING
We know that this world needs politicized somatics practitioners and leaders who are growing and transforming together with a shared path and vision.
We want to grow a politicized somatics that supports us as organizers to build and wield power in ways that transform the fundamental workings of our world towards life and liberation.
CAL is training a highly specialized group of politicized somaticists who will embody the possibility of building, wielding, and holding power in movement spaces. We develop bodies that can enter, sustain, transform, build, and intensify through enormous political, economic and ecological rupture.
For the long-haul, we see a thriving community of politicized somaticists who serve movement, who bring folks from their movement homes into what we're building to make that work more possible. We imagine a multiracial somatics that leads with values over identity or issues and that can increase the impact our movements make.
MEET our founders
B Stepp
(they/them)
B is a black, mixed, non-binary somatics practitioner, facilitator, and organizer. They live on unceded Duwamish and Coast Salish land (Seattle). They became politicized in the wake of 9/11 and began organizing inside of the anti-war and student movements that followed. In most recent years, B has been an active tenant organizer, building power in their own building, and city-wide, and organizing for healing and transformative justice inside of the movement for black lives, including inside of the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone that was established in the wake of the George Floyd Rebellion. B has been practicing with Generative Somatics since 2010 and has been teaching with Strozzi Institute since 2022.
REAM

Ream is a white queer organizer somatics practitioner on unceded Ohlone Land, organizing for economic and racial justice and immigrants’ rights, for over 25 years in the labor movement and currently as Strategic Campaigns Director for the United Domestic Workers’ Union. Ream began practice with Generative Somatics in 2011 and is a Community Teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland.

BUILDING POWER ON PURPOSE

We live inside of conditions where change often feels impossible. Still, the call for a world where life gets to flourish mobilizes us towards action. We want the action we take to mean something, to matter, and to support the material conditions of our lives to change in fundamental ways.
There is so much that we are up against that gets in the way of our visions becoming reality, but through the body we get to uncover the power and the possibility that has always been there.
What our movements are missing right now is the capacity to hold vision and action at the same time. Our movements need to be able to hold the complexity that allows us to tolerate our power, increase it, expand it, and ultimately wield it towards life and liberation. We need to build bodies that can act decisively in the moment while staying true to the promise of long-term struggle.
This course supports activists, organizers, healers, educators, and cultural workers in our work for liberation. This course is open to all regardless of your experience with politicized somatics.

PATHWAYS TO POWER

We want to build movement leaders who will come to our mats year after year. We are not offering a quick fix or a certification. We are offering a path to more choice, more agency, more aliveness, and more capacity to feel into what it will actually take to transform the conditions of our lives forever.
Deepen on path over 16 days in person together + additional time online spent in coaching circles and political education around the conditions and context we are facing as we work towards liberation.
Our time on the mat will focus on developing and deepening in the competencies necessary to hold and wield power. We see coordination, taking bold action, visioning, running and directing aliveness, learning to be in deep grapples, shame healing, and holding complexity and contradiction as integral pieces of this work. Our guiding question will be: What do our bodies need to increase, build, know, and remember to hold power well? How do we become more powerful and more possible together?

How We Are Meeting This Moment
We have one year of grassroots implementation under our belt. In our inaugural year, we:
piloted and fully enrolled year-long and four-day training models
supported organizers and leaders navigating real movement conditions
confirmed strong demand for a sustained path of practice, and
secured commitment from participants in our first year-long cohort to re-enroll in 2026
What we lack is not vision or demand—it is stable, values-aligned funding that allows us to build capacity without compromising accessibility, political clarity, or accountability to movement needs.
